Deciding how to introduce my blog was like deciding which
order of flavour to eat Neapolitan ice cream. Do I start with a scoop of plain
fact vanilla? Tickle your taste buds strawberry? Or overindulge with a scoop of
charming chocolate? Unable to choose my favourite flavour approach, I have
decided to introduce my blog the way I often eat Neapolitan, by mixing the
three flavours together and seeing what happens! So here goes...
Maybe I should begin by
stating that I love eating ice cream, a passion which seems to have developed from
the basic, but nevertheless tasty choc ice. Listening to my mum’s exciting
childhood memories of eating delicious ice creams made by her Italian family, including,
melt- in- your- mouth lemon ice sorbet, banana splits served in glass dishes,
and scrumptious peach melbas, I find it amusing that I shared the same
childhood excitement for the choc ice. When visiting my grandparents’ house, my
brother and I were often treated to choc ices, which were stored in a chest
freezer, kept inside a large cupboard under the stairs. Though mentioning this storage
may seem unnecessary, I believe it to be a factor, which for me, significantly
made eating ice cream fun. Unable to reach the cupboard door handle (which I
attempted to open on several occasions, hoping to sneak out an extra yummy choc
ice), this cupboard became part of an ice cream adventure, as when opened it lead
to the magical choc ice treasure chest. A treasure chest which later became the
ice cream van, and I today regard as any tub of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.
Studying recipes, the industry, and history of
ice cream, I hope my blog will be a treasure chest you enjoy exploring. Diving
into the fascinating world of ice cream, I will also consider why it is so popular;
a reason which I believe is principally due to the way it is presented
to us.
