Having enjoyed reading the blog comments people have
posted, sharing their childhood memories and thoughts about ice cream, I have
decided to create a post specifically for sharing any memories, thoughts, or
views you have about ice cream.
To break the ice, I pose the question: What was your favourite childhood ice cream?
Happy sharing!
This is a tough one. When I think back all I can remember is that I ate a lot of ice cream. Here are a few of my favourites:
ReplyDeleteMini Milks- Chocolate and vanilla!! I think there are no words that can do justice to the legendary mini milk.
Feast- This was amazing as it had THREE layers of chocolate! For those of you who have not tired it, it is amazing! First you have the first layer which was a thin chocolate and nut layer. Once you bite through that layer there is a layer of chocolate ice cream and the third layer is solid chocolate!! Apparently it now comes in a second flavour which is mint! I really want to try this as I love mint ice cream!
Fab- This was the playful strawberry ice lolly, as it had sprinkles and that thin white layer on the top half. I wonder what that is…
I think these are my top three! Although these days I am getting use to Hagen Daz cookies and cream and mint chip! I like to blame my ice cream obsession on all my university work. I wonder what I will blame it on when I have submitted all my work….
Hello Beryl! My favourite ice creams as a child were firstly, a 99 flake ice cream, (I once challenged a ice cream man as to why his 99 flake was not 99p, to which he informed me that the 99 is about the flake chocolate and has been called that since the 1920s, not about the price).
ReplyDeleteSecondly, a screwball! Yes the icon from the 70s which I love. My favourite part as a child was that the colourful gumball would dye the ice-cream at the bottom, so it would be really sweet. The gumball, however, would of lost all its colour and flavour by the time I had got to the bottom.
When I was in Florida, I discovered the 'Two Ball Screwball' which was amazing, as it had not one, but two gumballs! Another ice-cream discovery that I could not believe when I was in Florida, was an ice-cream birthday cake! It is very popular in America, but I could just not get over the incredible taste.
Finally, I leave you with an embarrassing childhood memory, that my mother feels the need to share with everyone, so I may as well share it too.
Remember the Ice-cream van's and the music they would play to entice us children, well, my mother told me that they played the music when all the ice-cream had run out, a lie that I did not discover until 14! Who says parents don't lie to their kids! (Demi Bacchus/ A Guyanese/English Journey).
Hi Beryl.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good question. Everyone has a favourite they just could not resist. I think mine, like Demi, was the Screwball! It was like two treats in one, Ice Cream and bubblegum!
Haven’t had one in years. Might have to pop out to the ice cream van next time it comes a calling.
However, although not a screwball, I did recently have a wonderful ice cream experience, I had a Rhubarb flavour ice cream, and as a rhubarb lover, I was not disappointed.
Beryl am loving your blog! Mini milks all the way and surprisingly I used to like Choc Ice.
ReplyDeleteBut now I love any Mango flavored ice cream and mmmmmm definitely Carte D'or's Creme de Mascarpone with raspberries and pistachio nuts. Yum! Yum!
